An Haitian suspected of being a multiple assassin for President Aristide's Lavalas party, is held captive by a vigilante in Petit Goave, 50kms south of Port-au-Prince, on March 3, three days after the president's departure. He was arrested by armed citizens of Petit Goave, who proceeded to stone him and then burn him alive. Aristide's heavily armed militants, known as chimères, had terrorized people while the president was still in office, taking the place of a corrupt and ineffectual police force.

This picture received an honourable mention in the spot news category but I think it should have won Photo of the Year.

Emotion is so hard to capture, partly because so many people hide it and also because so many people misinterpret it. Fear for example never fails to fascinate me because it seems so hard to freeze. Here though that look goes far beyond... this is the look of death.

I'm lucky.. I went today not realizing it was the last Toronto viewing day. If you are in Montreal you can view it at the Parisian Laundry & Co. until October 29.
